Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is officially making its PS5 debut on December 8, 2025, more than a year after its original release on Xbox Series X|S and PC. There has been a growing trend of Microsoft moving its console-exclusive titles to other platforms, and soon, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be added to that list when it launches on PS5 later this year.
Although a bit of a niche genre, Microsoft has a history of topping lists of the best flight simulator games. With a storied past that dates all the way back to the series’ first IBM computer-exclusive entry in 1982, the Microsoft Flight Simulator series has more than a dozen entries in its 43-year history, though there have been much longer gaps of time between games since the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator X in 2006.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PS5 Release Date
- December 8, 2025
Following an announcement made at the September 24 PlayStation State of Play live stream event, the latest entry in the series, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, has been confirmed to be in development for PlayStation 5 and will make its debut on the console on December 8, 2025. Though the game had suffered from long loading time issues during its original launch on Xbox consoles and PC, it has also earned acclaim for a number of its features, including landscape streaming and enhanced visuals over the series’ previous entry from 2020. Pre-orders for the upcoming PlayStation 5 version are available now, and those who favor a virtual reality experience are in for a treat, as PlayStation VR2 support has also been announced to be in development for use with the game.
Rumors of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024‘s jump to PlayStation 5 have been around since late July, having originally been predicted by prominent leaker NateTheHate, who also correctly placed the game’s release date before the end of 2025. It was a bold prediction at the time, as despite the series’ more than four-decade-long history, this new announcement during the State of Play marks the first time that one of its games will see an official release on a PlayStation console.
The trailer that accompanies the announcement of the PS5 release shows off various different kinds of aircraft that PlayStation players can expect to see in the game, which include military jets, jumbo jets, single-prop planes, helicopters, and blimps, providing a wide variety of play styles. In total, there are more than 150 different varieties of aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024‘s full version, but it’s not yet clear how many will be available to players on PlayStation at launch, as the original Xbox and PC version’s Standard Edition only came equipped with 75 different types.
